The Opportunity

An Actuary Analyst II within our pricing group helps set the Root actuarial standard of excellence by accurately and efficiently setting rate indications, producing rate filings, responding to filing objections, and developing tools to monitor all aspects of Root’s pricing and competitive position. An actuary analyst II is a key member of Root’s quantitative science department and works closely with other actuaries and data scientists. Additionally, they work cross functionally with members of State Product Management, Product, Engineering, Insurance regulatory, as well as our executive team.

Salary Range: $76,500 - $100,000

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Execute pricing initiatives including initial state roll-out and rate changes for auto and renters products.

  • Evaluate and analyze data, including quarterly indications, to develop recommendations for pricing improvements and strategic goals.

  • Support rate filings and engineering implementations.

  • Drive filing objections with thorough, accurate, and effective analysis and communication

  • Produce tools and regular reporting that track Root’s pricing initiatives across markets.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 1+ years of experience in the industry with 1+ years of experience in pricing/ratemaking

  • 3+ actuarial exams

  • Experience in developing novel actuarial analyses

  • Experience with databases and SQL

  • Experience with R or Python

  • Demonstrable ownership mentality, taking initiative to find, prioritize, and be accountable for the highest impact work.

  • Ability to plan out and achieve multi-quarter projects on time and as envisioned.

  • Exceptional ability to communicate with stakeholders, including the executive leadership team

Preferred but not required

  • ACAS

  • Rigorous statistical thinking within an alternative model framework

  • Management experience (team, project, or product)

  • Experience using version control (Git) and cloud computing (AWS)

  • Experience filing in states with complex regulatory requirements
