Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, motivated, and savvy Writer / Editor to lead our content creation and publishing process in a fast-paced startup work environment. You will manage the creation and curation of compelling and engaging content for our target audience, both as an individual contributor and as a manager of external writers.

Your primary duties will include overseeing the content creation process, writing, proofreading and editing, publishing, ensuring search engine optimization strategies are followed, and tracking and analyzing readership data.

To excel in this role, you will have experience working with a team of writers, writing and editing content, adhering to a writing style guide, analyzing data, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Journalism, or other relevant field, minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a content editor or content manager, understanding and experience developing and implementing SEO strategies, and great blog or digital writing samples.

Principal Duties

Strategic

  • Work closely with internal and external teams to participate in the content creation process
  • Continually raise the bar on creativity, helping write fresh copy that connects with the desired audience and drives action
  • Comfortably vary voice, style, and other characteristics as required by company, or target audience
  • Stay updated on appropriate style guidelines and brand voice for consistency in messaging
  • Research and understand the company’s needs and target audiences, through online searches, reviews of existing research, interviews with subject matter experts, and in-person meetings
  • Understand the concept behind the content and how it achieves business goals
  • Stay on top of trends through business/industry monitoring, and share with team

Tactical

  • Take ownership of the output from a team of writers and guest bloggers
  • Oversee and contribute to the creation of content in a variety of formats, including web and interactive content, and social media
  • Utilize SEO best practices to ensure new content drives towards business goals
  • Ensure all content adheres to tone of voice and writing style guides
  • Proofread and edit for spelling, grammar, and syntax
  • Verify all content and information is true and accurate
  • Analyze data and analytics, and seek to increase reader engagement and retention
  • Manage a busy workload according to deadlines
  • Juggle multiple assignments and work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times
  • Manage time and establish priorities while maintaining flexibility to respond to changing demands

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, English, Journalism, or other relevant field
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading experience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Management or supervisory experience with freelance writers
  • Ability to own projects, demonstrate good judgment, and take initiative
  • Experience working with content calendars
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to use tools such as Trello (project management), Google Analytics, Markdown, Github, social media platforms, SEMrush (SEO tools), and Google Docs
