Merchant Risk Specialist

North - Troy, MI (Hybrid)

Please note this role has a hybrid work schedule with at least one day per week in the Troy, MI office, including each Wednesday.

The work hours for the position are 9 am - 6 pm ET, Sunday-Thursday.

The primary focus of the Merchant Risk Specialist is to monitor merchant accounts and identify high risk merchant behavior. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical person that enjoys investigation and problem solving.

What you'll do:

  • Determine if merchant transactions are fraudulent or risky, following departmental risk policies, to make a decision if the transactions should be canceled and refunded, or are legitimate and should be processed and fulfilled.

  • Maintain or exceed established Risk service level agreements and guidelines for timely resolution of flagged transactions to minimize potential revenue losses.

  • Effectively manage incoming communication via multiple channels (phone, email, and Customer Ticket Management System) from both internal and external customers, and resolve all issues within established service-level agreements.

  • Conduct analysis of transactional and customer records to link unidentified transactions and accounts to known fraudulent activity.

  • Analyze advanced digital identity inconsistencies and information to assess potential risk of newly boarded accounts.

  • Perform investigations and analysis of cardholder disputed transactions as per card scheme regulations.

  • Prepare and provide well-documented case investigations, to include "cause and effect" analysis, and complete comprehensive Suspicious Activity Reports when applicable.

  • Examine and interpret statistical reports.

  • Interact with other Risk teams on developing fraud prevention strategies as needed.

  • Support the Risk team in various initiatives and ad hoc projects as required.

What we need from you:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Two years of college or related education/experience.

  • Fraud investigation background or experience in a role requiring strong research skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adjust communication style to diverse audiences.

  • Strong self-motivation and results-oriented skills.

  • Self-accountability with the ability to accept feedback.

  • Flexibility to adapt and able to manage multiple assignments while working independently.

  • Detail oriented and excellent organization skills.

  • Strong internet research skills and overall computer proficiency, preferably using Google Workspace.

  • Ability to make sound business decisions based upon the review process.

Hourly Pay Range: $17-$23
