Principal Software Engineer

As a Principal Software Engineer at Flexera, you will play a crucial role in setting the technical direction and architecture for our cutting-edge SaaS Management product.

Your work will span the entire spectrum of activities required to run a high-performance cloud solution, guiding multiple teams and partner with engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex issues. You will promote best practices across the team and will act as quality expert ensuring our solutions are scalable, secure, and performant. As part of the architecture council, you will help evolve and implement the architectural direction and strategies within Flexera and be a key player that will allow us to deliver on our functional and non-functional requirements for years to come.

What You'll Do:

  • Actively participate in an agile software development life cycle, including decomposing requirements, documenting and discussing the design, estimation, and implementation.
  • Design and implement cloud-based, multi-layered software applications with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and security. Lead the technical roadmap for the SaaS Manager product line.
  • Prototype new solutions, contribute to code reviews and analysis of issues, primarily in Go in Kubernetes in Azure.
  • Collaborate with Chief Architect, Principal and Lead engineers, and product management to develop technology strategy and architecture for current and future products
  • Lead and participate in architecture discussions, generating recommendations that align with the business goals and technology strategy.
  • Engage in rapid prototyping and pair programming to validate concepts and refine solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX designers and Cloud Operations, to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
  • Constantly improve product quality, security, and performance by leveraging the latest deployment and monitoring tools such as ArgoCD, SumoLogic, SonarQube, PagerDuty
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to the engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Collaborate with teams to create and review architecture and design proposals including functional and non-functional requirements.

You'll Be Expected to Have:

  • Extensive experience in developing complex, cloud-based applications, and can show us your personal/work projects. - Extensive experience with a functional or object-oriented language (Go, C#, Java)
  • Ability to reason about software, algorithms, and performance from a high level
  • Experience designing and delivering cloud native, microservices based applications and cloud-native solutions, including experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
  • Strong proficiency in storage technologies, including MongoDB, Cloud Object storage and RDBMS.
  • Superb communication skills to work effectively within and across teams, including mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
  • Experience with following is a plus: JavaScript, React, stream processing, AWS
  • Experience providing technical leadership across one or more teams
  • Strong understanding of agile ways of working and systems thinking
