Despite August being the slowest month for VC funding in the last two years, the Midwest has seen some great funding activity recently.
Forge Biologics out of Columbus, Ohio raised $90 million in a Series C funding round.
Digital Diagnostics in Coralville, Iowa raised $75 million in a Series B round.
Milwaukee startup Frontdesk raised $13 million in a Series B round.
Indy’s Olio raised $13 million in Series A.
Yes, there’s been a funding slowdown, but companies are still raising funds and growing. Some venture capitalists say this is actually a return to the glory days of early VC investing — when costs were lower for venture capital buy-in, and the bold risks taken yielded very high rewards.
