There’s no doubt a shift is happening in the hiring landscape. Many companies, big and small, have gone from rapidly hiring to cutting teams and reorganizing their labor force. But that’s not the whole story.
Despite the media’s focus on layoffs and hiring freezes, there are still many companies that are hiring. Just in the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen companies continue to hire, raise money and grow.
Labor Market & Startup Trends
To stay on top of everything happening in the tech hiring market right now, we’ve partnered with our friends at PeerSignal. Using their B2B Hiring Tracker and other data at our fingertips, we’re trying to paint a more complete picture of the tech industry right now.
Last month, PeerSignal found that of the 1,310 B2B tech companies with open roles that they track, 23% had more open roles in August than in July.
"Many of the companies paused in Q1 but are investing now. Some never stopped. Some are just starting to ramp," said Adam Schoenfeld, Co-Founder and Analyst at PeerSignal. "We're seeing some signs for stabilization this month."
What does that stabilization look like? Yes, there continues to be a chunk of companies that are decreasing headcount (that number sits at 23%, same as last month), but there was also a slight increase in the number of companies growing their headcount, up from 58% to 60%.
As for funding, last month venture funding rounds were at their lowest point in the last two years. But still, companies continue to raise money — especially in the energy sector — on the coasts and in the Midwest.
You can check more details and stats in this month’s tech market report. Keep reading for hiring companies and job opportunities!
