High school sports may not be the first industry that comes to mind when talking about technology advancement, but that’s exactly where one Columbus firm is finding a product-market fit.
HomeTown Ticketing, a leading digital ticketing platform, has launched a new app to streamline the way high school sports fans buy and manage tickets to their favorite events.
The company says its HomeTown Fan App builds on consumer demand for digital purchasing of pretty much everything.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for parents, grandparents and other high school sports fans to get into the game or theatre,” said HomeTown Chairman and CEO Ryan Hart. “People buy almost everything else on their phones. Why should events at the high school level be any different?”
Despite the shift to app-based ticketing for pro sporting events, concerts, movies, and shows, many high school events still used paper tickets.
"High schools have Nike deals, multimillion-dollar stadiums, media rights deals, but everyone was still walking in the gate with cash," Lorien Parry Luehrs, president and chief operating officer, told Columbus Business First. "Every mom has an app for everything they do at school, for lunches, grades and attendance.”
The HomeTown Fan App allows school staff to manage ticketed events in a convenient and cashless way. The company does not handle the event organizer’s funds, which are available and accessible within 24 hours of a ticket sale.
The app allows event attendees to:
-
Search for local events by school name and zip code
-
Stay up to date on favorite schools and organizations
-
Purchase and access event tickets
-
Enter events with touchless scanning
HomeTown says it provides paperless ticketing platforms to more than 11,000 schools nationwide, as well as 200 small colleges, 17 state athletic associations, and 44 college conferences. The company has 200 employees in five offices across the country.
